Jelena Mrkich is an intuitive artist and creative being based in Sydney, Australia. Born with an innate desire to express life through creativity, she has a deep passion for soul-empowering and visionary projects and a world that honours the sacredness in love, truth and real beauty.

Graduating from Billy Blue School of Graphic Design & Advertising in 1994, Jelena has worked as both an in-house and freelance Graphic Designer. In 1998 she broadened her design skills, becoming a self-taught Web Developer/ Designer. Her studies include mono-print, chine collè and etching at Il Bisonte International School of Graphic Arts in Florence, Italy. Jelena was the founder of Mesha - a range of enviro-friendly hand-made products; and co-created journal label Wakimbo, with its online sanctuary helping others uncover more of who they really are. Through these endeavours, the passing of her mum, travels across the world and other creative pursuits, she has been led to realise her life-long calling as an artist.

In her current work Jelena explores the beauty of the universe (both within us and out), through the medium of digital art.

“The medium of digital art enables me to touch, express and communicate what I sense. For me, there is more to reality than what our human eyes can see. There is an ever present and very much alive creative impulse that weaves into being the entire cosmos. From the outermost galaxies to our own microscopic cells, a divine energy flows through all. To me this is as real as my flesh. My aim with my art is to capture these ‘sensings’ and share them with the viewer.”

Beginning each piece from a blank digital canvas, Jelena makes her art by interweaving numerous individual layers. Each layer is created by hand, using the mouse and keyboard like brushes, and manifest through an understanding of colour, composition and form – the same principles applied in traditional art. Jelena has been working with this technique for over 6 years, and is one that she continues to develop. She also experiments with digital photography, photographic manipulations, life drawing and mixed media.

Jelena’s art brings into view that which might not be ordinarily visible to the human eye. Is it true? The truth is in your own heart.
